Case competitions can play a role in highlighting the many skills involved in case writing, teaching and learning. They can benefit faculty, researchers and students and offer the opportunity to showcase expertise at business schools and universities. AABS - EMERALD Case Study Competition

Phase 1 date: 15 January 2012
Phase 2 date: 16 January 2012 and 20 March 2012

All case studies submitted to the competition should be suitable for use in management education and be related to managerial issues faced by organisations and individuals. Applicants need to be employed by an AABS (Association of African Business Schools) member or pipeline school. 

Cash prizes will be awarded to the three outstanding submissions (winner $1,500, first runner-up $1,000, second runner-up $500).

Aspen Institute Case Writing Competition 2012

Creating Business Value through Employment Practices for Low Wage Workers

With generous support from The Hitachi Foundation, The Aspen Institute is seeking new teaching cases that demonstrate how businesses achieve performance gains through innovative employment practices benefiting their hourly and/or frontline workforce. This competition will reward the best new business teaching case that demonstrates the positive relationship between employment practices for low wage workers and business performance. Finalists receive $1,000 and the winner will receive an additional $5,000 prize.

AESE 2nd Case Writing Competition


Since its foundation 30 years ago, AESE has exclusively used case method teaching in its programmes. The cases initially used were from foreign countries, but gradually these have been replaced by cases written in Portugal mostly featuring Portuguese companies.

The school promotes its second Case Writing Competition with the intent of rewarding the quality of written cases, a value that is associated not only to the actual writing of the case, but also and mainly, to its pedagogical usefulness and relevance. As one of the key aspects in coping with structural changes in the economy, the ability of companies to change their strategy 'Strategies for Change' is the theme for this years competition.

There will be a first and a second prize of €1000 and €500 respectively.

Baylor Entrepreneurship Student Case Writing Competition

The Baylor Entrepreneurship Case Writing Competition is an innovative international event that supports and encourages undergraduate and graduate students from across the globe who wish to engage in case research and case writing. Submitted cases are suitable if they advance the field of entrepreneurship, broadly defined, and contribute to our understanding of entrepreneurial phenomena.

CEEMAN Case Writing Competition - in partnership with Emerald

The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality case material relevant for the realities of transitional and emerging economies and at the same time promote the development of case-writing capabilities in those countries. Decision Sciences Best Teaching Case Competition

2011 competition submission deadline 1 April 2011
 

The Decision Sciences Institute has a tradition of promoting case-based teaching and supporting the development of teaching cases and invites case writers in all business disciplines to submit their new and engaging teaching cases to the 2011 Best Teaching Case Competition.

Authors of three finalist cases, selected by a panel of case experts, will present their case studies and analysis at a regular session at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Decision Sciences Institute to be held in Boston, Massachusetts. The panel of judges will then select the winner from among the finalists, based both on the written material and the presentation. The winning case will be announced at the Awards luncheon, where the authors will receive a cash award.

ecch case writing competition 2012

Submission deadline: 12 October 2012

The case writing competition is part of the ecch Case Awards which are presented annually to recognise worldwide excellence in case writing and to raise the profile of the case method of learning. In 2011 the competition attracted 91 entries from 75 places of learning in 34 countries.

Categories for the 2012 competition

Hot topic: The Business of Sport. The hot topic identified by the ecch Executive Committee for the 2012 case writing competition is The Business of Sport. In this Olympic year cases are invited that feature a business situation set within the sporting industry. Relevance to the topic will form part of the judging criteria.

New case writer. This category is designed to recognise new case authors. Submissions must be the first teaching case prepared by the author(s) in a format that can be used by other case teachers. The case may focus on any business subject area.

EFMD Case Writing Competition

2011 winners announced

EFMD has been organizing a Case Writing Competition for thirty years and aims, through this competition, to encourage the writing of case material involving European companies and institutions. This is part of EFMD's efforts to improve management education through faculty development, development of teaching material and learning methods, as well as the dissemination of best practice gathered from a number of meetings and projects. The competition always attracts entries from leading case writing institutions in Europe, North America and beyond.

IMA Case Writing Competition

Submission deadline: 31 May 2012

IMA® invites academics and the accounting community to participate in its second annualIMA Case Writing Competition, a program of the IMA Educational Case Journal (IECJ®). IECJ is IMA’s quarterly, on-line journal which promotes teaching cases and research relevant to accountants and financial professionals in business. IMA welcomes cases in any area of management accounting or related fields. Cash prizes for the winning entries will be awarded: $2,000 for first place; $1,000 for second place; and $500 for third place.

ISB-Ivey Global Case Competition 2012

This competition is run by the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Case Development at the Indian School of Business (ISB), in partnership with Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario, and is supported by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and the Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS). The objective is to facilitate the build-up of high-quality, internationally benchmarked cases about Indian businesses by reaching out to a wide network of Indian and Global B Schools. 2011-2012 Reaching Out MBA Case Writing Competition

Submission deadline: 30 March 2012

There exists a limited pool of MBA-level business school cases which adequately address contemporary Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered issues with sensitivity and sensibility, the Reaching Out MBA Case Writing Competition seeks to ameliorate this situation. Students, alumni, and faculty from MBA and PhD programs throughout the world are invited to research and write an original business case for the competition. Research stipends of USD1,500 will be awarded to selected case writers who complete and submit a case according to the following milestones:
  • case proposal date needs amending to: 30 November 2011
  • draft date needs amending to: 31 January 2012
  • submission deadline date needs amending to: 30 March 2012
Additionally one case will be selected for its overall excellence and that author, or team of authors, will be awarded an additional US$3,500.
